Apple Inc. has stopped the production of iPad 3 with the launch of iPad 4 and the latter is being regarded as the perfect replacement for earlier models. However, refurbished and renovated models of iPad 3 are still available for purchase in the market.

Interestingly, Apple Inc. has not yet stopped the production of iPad 2 and a slightly cheaper model is still available in some markets. So, if you are planning to buy either of these iPad models scroll down and take a look at the detailed comparison we have compiled on both the models before making your decision.

Display

The standout feature of iPad 3 is the enhanced retina display; iPad 3 has a 9.7-inch screen with a greater resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. IPad 2, though has the same screen size, is only equipped with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Hence, the retina display of iPad 3 is more vibrant and delivers better experience with High Definition pictures and videos.

Processor

IPad 2 is equipped with a dual core A5 Apple processer, which enables advanced graphical output in the device. On the other hand, IPad 3 has a superior dual core A5x processer, and offers quad core graphics and better performance.

Camera

Both iPad 2 and iPad 3 consists of two cameras: a front camera and a back camera. The rear cameras differ in the both models; iPad 3 has a 5-megapixel 1080p capable iSight camera, whereas iPad 2 is equipped with a 720p capable rear camera. However, both iPads offer the same front camera features.

Storage

The storage options are limited in iPad 2 – it offers only an internal 16 GB storage space. This drawback is solved in iPad 3, which comes with 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB inbuilt storage options. IPad 3 consists of a 1 GB RAM and offers high speed performance and gaming experience, whereas iPad 2 is equipped with only 512 MB of RAM.

Connectivity

IPad 2 allows Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, whereas iPad 3 offers Wi-Fi and a much faster, 4G LTE cellular connectivity. In addition to that, iPad 3 is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 while iPad 2 comes with Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
